eat the day

At the beach
For my morning walk
I inhale deeply the cool air
A sweet saline taste pervades,
An inverted pyramid of sunlight
Shimmers, on the green jelly ocean
Stretching to the flanks of Rangitoto
Which lies quietly, a sleeping dragon
Guarding Auckland harbour’s entrance
I’d like to take a big bite out of the sky
wash it down with some emerald sea

Great. i have never thought of Rangitoto as a sleeping dragon before, but now I shall always. Perfect for a dormant volcano! I can see that inverted pyramid of sunlight on green jelly in the form of your poem.. delightful. More More.

Wonderful, and ditto Glenn's comment about the sleeping dragon! Your poetry is lovely, I relate easily to the concept of wanting to eat or drink something beautiful.

Wow. The form, the color, the words all come together for this poem. It tells a story and tickles my imagination with the scent, sight and feel of what you wanted to convey. Big round of applause to you!!! It also made me want to eat the green jelly ocean and to bite into the sky. :)

Thank you all for such wonderful positive comments, it adds a big incentive to such an enjoyable pastime. Sorry for the tardiness in reply but I've been away for several days and return with renewed vigour and inspiration...

The last two lines, so pleasantly memorable. ^_^ Reading this makes me crave for some beach-induced catharsis. I read your poem again, and I could hear the waves... Thank you for sharing this. ^_^

Nose and eyes open the experience, followed by the presence of a legendary creature. Finally we go willingly over the boundries of sense and thought to a gustatory delight in the world around us. I'm with slight of mind, cecilia and ozy: I also wish to taste beauty! Good one blueorchid!
